Programme Description
The Master's Programme in Information Networks is designed to address the grand challenges of our time, from climate change to the manipulation of information. These challenges are complex societal phenomena that require an interdisciplinary approach, recognizing the broader connections between issues. In this future-oriented programme, students learn to understand how individual technologies and business models can shape societies and values at the level of organizations, networks, and entire industries.
Graduates of the programme will have:
- A societal perspective on technology, understanding the broad impacts of individual technologies such as artificial intelligence or cloud computing and recognizing how they can shape societies and values.
- An understanding of how technology shapes business, knowing how certain technologies and information systems enable new business models and allow organizations to support the transition towards a more sustainable, humane, and equitable society.
- The ability to think critically, evaluating and creating knowledge about technologies, businesses, and societal phenomena from ethical, philosophical, and societal perspectives.
- A socially responsible approach to engineering, with the tools and knowledge to create responsible and sustainable technologies, organizations, and businesses.
- Strong working life and interaction skills, with the ability to work in teams and collaborate with professionals from various fields.
Tuition Fees and Scholarships
The tuition fee for this programme is 17,000 euros per year. EU/EEA citizens are exempt from tuition fees. Aalto University offers a limited number of scholarships to non-EU/EEA citizens who are required to pay tuition fees.
Curriculum
The programme consists of 120 credits and is designed to be completed in two years. The curriculum includes:
- Major studies (40-65 credits)
- Master's thesis (30 credits)
- Elective studies (25-35 credits)
- Optional minor studies (20-25 credits)
If a student chooses to complete minor studies, they must be completed in addition to the major studies.
