Introduction to the Diploma Religions, Secularism, Societies (ReLaiS)

The Diplôme Religions, Laïcité, Sociétés (ReLaiS) is a one-year diploma program offered by the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) - PSL in partnership with Sciences Po Lille. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationships between religions, society, and the state.

Program Details

The ReLaiS diploma is a certified program (QUALIOPI, article L. 6316-4 of the labor code) that aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the intricate landscape of religions and secularism (secularism) in contemporary society. The program is structured around three modules:


  1. Module 1: Religions and Society - This module delves into the foundational texts, institutions, and practices of various religions, providing a comprehensive understanding of their role in society.
  2. Module 2: Knowledge of Secularism and Management of Religious Issues in the Workplace - Students learn about the principles of secularism, its historical development, and how it interacts with religious practices in professional settings.
  3. Module 3: Seminar on "A Republican Territory Faced with Religious Questions for 150 Years" - This seminar offers an in-depth examination of how religious questions have been addressed in a specific territorial context over the past 150 years.

Admission Criteria

  • Prerequisites: A diploma of at least the bachelor's level or equivalent. The program's advisory board may grant exceptions based on professional experience or prior academic achievements.
  • Application Process: Candidates must submit their application through an online portal, providing required documents such as diplomas, passports, letters of motivation, and CVs. A selection interview may be part of the process.

Tuition Fees

  • Financing by a Third Party (Employer, OPCO, etc.): €2,500 incl. VAT per year
  • Self-financing (on proof of no coverage by a third party): €750 incl. VAT per year

Evaluation and Certification

Upon completing the program, students who have met the evaluation criteria receive the Diplôme d’establishment Religions, Laïcité, Sociétés from EPHE - PSL. The evaluation includes written and oral exams for Modules 1 and 2, and a synthesis report for Module 3.
