Bachelor's in Economics and Management
Program Overview
Bachelor's in Economics and Management
The Bachelor's in Economics and Management is a three-year degree, offering an inter-disciplinary and all-round education with the possibility to specialise further in management or applied economics and finance in Year 3.
Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is similar to the Bachelor's in Organisational Sciences. Especially designed for students with an international profile, our degree in London is taught entirely in English and includes the study of at least one foreign language. We offer the best of the British and French university systems: a high number of contact hours, an interdisciplinary curriculum, language proficiency, small-group tuition, and personalised guidance.
In Year 1 and Year 2, the curriculum is designed to equip students with the fundamentals of five subject areas:
- Economics: Microeconomy, Macroeconomy, Economic aspects of globalisation
- Management: Introduction to General Management, Financial and Management Accounting, History of Management
- Quantitative disciplines: Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Sciences
- Social Sciences and Law: Political Sciences, Sociology, Global Contemporary Issues and Law (Public Law, Contract Law, etc.)
- Language and Communication
We put a real emphasis on language proficiency, and all our students must study at least one foreign language during their time with us. Language and professional communication training (English and Communication modules + a mandatory foreign language) is reinforced through optional study skills workshops provided to the students. Extra support is available with regular office hours offered by the English and Communication lecturers.
Foreign language classes are held at UCL:
- At the UCL's Center of Languages & International Education (CLIE), 9 languages are on offer at 7 different levels of proficiency, and teaching includes on-campus classes at UCL, language labs, and online self-evaluation exercises.
BEM students spend 17 to 22 hours per week in class, almost twice the number of contact hours offered at most UK universities. This allows our students to spend more time benefiting from the experience of our lecturers. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each comprising 12 weeks of classes, one reading week, and one exam week. Classes are typically 90 minutes-long; students are assessed through continuous assessments and final exams.

At the end of the second year, students will choose their major and specialise in either the Management, Economics, or Social Sciences pathway. The London campus offers the Management and Applied Economics & Finance majors, and students will be able to spend the third year with us and continue to benefit from the international outlook of our degree and location. Alternatively, students can transfer to our parent university in Paris, selecting any of the majors offered, or choose from one of our 315 partner universities worldwide.
