Program Details

The program "Les estampes en bibliothèque – gestion d'un fonds, catalogage, valorisation" is a stage of the formation continue offered by the École nationale des chartes.

Presentation

This formation aims to provide participants with a culture of prints, from their origins to the present day, and to address practical and technical questions that will enable them to handle such a collection. The program will cover methods and tools for examining, comparing, describing, acquiring, digitizing, and lending prints.

Public

The program is primarily intended for professionals in libraries, with a prerequisite of a good foundation in the history and management of heritage collections.

Program

The program will take place from April 14 to 16, 2026, at the École nationale des chartes, 65 rue de Richelieu, Paris 2e. The schedule includes:

• April 14:
  • 9:30-12:30: Introduction, presentation of the program, and historical and technical approaches to prints
  • 14:00-17:00: Historical and technical approaches to prints from the classical period to the present day
• April 15:
  • 9:30-12:30: Visit to the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève and discussion on the valorization of prints
  • 14:30-17:30: Visit to the chalcographie du Louvre
• April 16:
  • 9:30-12:30: Workshop on cataloging and signaling ancient prints
  • 14:00-17:00: Conservation, classification, digitization, acquisition, and exhibition of prints

The program will be led by:

• Rémi Mathis, deputy director of the École des chartes library
• Anna Baydova, doctor of art history and engineer of studies at the Centre d'Études Supérieures de la Renaissance in Tours

Tarifs

The tuition fees are:

• 690 € for public institutions
• 1380 € for private institutions
