Program Overview

The Promotion of Movement in Old Age course is a 4-day program designed to provide participants with the latest scientific knowledge on promoting movement and exercise in older adults.


Course Objectives

The course aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead group exercise classes for older adults, focusing on aspects such as physical fitness, health, nutrition, and motivation.


Course Content

The course covers the following topics:


  • Day 1: Movement and Health Promotion in Old Age: The Best Recipes (Movement and Health Promotion in Old Age: The Best Recipes)
  • Day 2: The Aging Human: Changes and Medical Specialties
  • Day 3: Training for Endurance and Mobility in Old Age
  • Day 4: Maintaining Strength, Balance, and Opportunities for Fall Prevention

Target Audience

The course is designed for professionals such as physiotherapists, sports teachers, trainers, and individuals who offer movement promotion services for older adults.


Admission Requirements

Participants must have completed at least five days of advanced training in the esa system or equivalent.


Course Leadership

The course is led by Dr. Ralf Roth and a team of experts from the Department of Sport, Movement, and Health.


##Tuition Fees The course fee is CHF 500, including course materials. A reduced fee of CHF 400 is available for esa-certified individuals and employees of Pro Senectute.


Course Duration

The course starts on Friday, August 29, 2025, and ends on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The course is organized by the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel in cooperation with the Swiss Health Promotion Association and its partner organizations, including Pro Senectute, esa, Rheumaliga Schweiz, BFU, SFGV, and BGB Schweiz.
