Leadership (LEAD) Short Course

Overview

The Leadership (LEAD) short course is a module of the MBA in International Health Management. It is designed to impart key concepts and experiences of leadership in health to those engaged in or entering public and international health roles.

Course Content

The course covers various aspects of leadership in international health, including:


  • Key debates around leadership in international health and implications for leaders within organisations
  • Theoretical frameworks of leadership and application to the field of health
  • Transactional and transformational leadership
  • Emotional intelligence, team motivation, communications, and managing people
  • Personal and professional development planning
  • Strategic stakeholder analysis and stakeholder engagement
  • Mentoring, coaching, and feedback techniques
  • Self-assessment of leadership competencies to identify knowledge gaps and further training needs
  • Decision-making processes and "unconscious learning"

Structure

The course is a part-time and flexible study program that caters to the needs of working professionals. More than 75% of all learning takes place at a distance, giving students the opportunity to learn and progress at their own pace. The course starts with a distance-based preparation phase, followed by an on-campus phase and the final exam.


Target Audience

The course is designed for all who work or aspire to work in the area of international cooperation for public health at all levels. It is of special interest for (future) leaders and managers addressing the need to link strong business management expertise and a sound education in public health.


  • Participants should have a first professional qualification (e.g., Bachelor's degree) and at least 2 years of professional experience.
  • Participants should demonstrate sufficient English language skills (TOEFL Paper 550/ TOEFL Computer 213/ TOEFL internet 79 – 80/ IELTS 6.0 or native speaker or completed higher education in English).
