Program Overview
The Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) program is designed to provide participants with the skills to systematically collect student feedback and assess the effectiveness of their teaching methods.
Program Description
The program focuses on the use of Classroom Assessment Techniques to gather feedback from students and evaluate the impact of teaching on student learning. Participants will learn how to plan and implement CATs, and how to use the feedback to improve their teaching practices.
Program Requirements
To receive a certificate of participation, participants must:
- Attend all in-person sessions
- Plan and implement a CAT
- Complete all self-study assignments
Program Schedule
The program consists of two in-person sessions:
- Friday, February 6, 2026, 09:15-12:00
- Friday, May 8, 2026, 09:15-12:00
Admission Criteria
The program is open to university staff, including doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, with a minimum of a master's degree, who are involved in teaching at the University of Basel.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fee for the program is CHF 80.00 for university staff. Refund options are available and can be discussed with the department.
Program Objectives
After completing the program, participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and benefits of using CATs in their teaching
- Select and implement appropriate CATs for their teaching context
- Use student feedback to improve their teaching practices
- Initiate a feedback culture with their students and support student learning

Target Audience
The program is designed for university staff, including doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, who are involved in teaching at the University of Basel.
Prerequisites
Participants must have a supporting role in a teaching program at the bachelor's or master's level or be teaching their own course in the spring semester 2026.
Workload
The program consists of:
- 6 hours of in-person sessions
- 2 hours of self-study with a performance record
