Program Overview
Master of Science in Chemistry
The Master's program in Chemistry can be started after successfully completing a Bachelor's degree and comprises 90 credit points, typically lasting three semesters. The program allows students to develop personal interests, enabling initial specialization. It provides theoretical and practical training. Students demonstrate their ability to plan, execute, and present an independent research project through their Master's thesis. The program is conducted in English.
Program Structure
- The first and second semesters are divided into compulsory and elective courses in the areas of Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry, totaling 30 credit points, as well as two elective practical courses (each 15 credit points in two different working groups).
- In the third semester, students typically work on their Master's thesis (26 credit points) and take the oral Master's examination (4 credit points). One credit point (ECTS) corresponds to approximately 30 working hours.
- There is also the possibility of completing the elective practical courses or the Master's thesis at non-university institutions, which usually takes three months.
Further Studies
Often, after completing the Master's program, students pursue a doctoral degree, where they independently work on a current research topic in a research group and conclude with a doctoral degree.
Research Areas
The program covers a wide range of research areas, including:
- Anorganische Chemie (Inorganic Chemistry)
- Organische Chemie (Organic Chemistry)
- Physikalische Chemie (Physical Chemistry)
- Synthese & Katalyse (Synthesis & Catalysis)
- Nanomaterialien (Nanomaterials)
- Theoretische Chemie (Theoretical Chemistry)
- Analytische Chemie (Analytical Chemistry)
- Chemische Biologie (Chemical Biology)
