Program Overview
Graduiertenprogramm Gender Studies
The Graduiertenprogramm Gender Studies Basel (GGSB) is a program designed for individuals pursuing a doctorate at the University of Basel with a focus on gender research. The program provides a platform for academic exchange and networking during the doctoral period, aiming to promote the education of young scientists in gender research.
Program Structure
The program offers various formats, including:
- A regular colloquium where doctoral students present their research projects and discuss empirical material and texts on a yearly theme.
- A weekly Writing Lab that provides a framework for continuous writing and peer exchange on academic writing.
- Guest lectures and workshops with external experts that bring in content inputs and expertise from outside Basel, creating opportunities for international networking.
- A certificate of participation is issued upon successful completion of the program.
Interuniversity Cooperation
The Graduiertenprogramm Gender Studies Basel is part of the Interuniversity Doctoral Program Gender Studies Switzerland, which includes the graduate programs in gender studies from the universities of Bern and Zurich. This cooperation enables Basel doctoral students to participate in events organized by the Bern and Zurich programs and to engage in close exchange with gender research in the German-speaking Switzerland through jointly organized events, such as an annual summer retreat.
Graduate School of Social Sciences
The Graduiertenprogramm Gender Studies Basel is also part of the Graduate School of Social Sciences (G3S) of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Basel. This affiliation offers opportunities for interdisciplinary networking and participation in competence workshops and further education, such as workshops on academic publishing or courses on self-organization during doctoral studies.
