Introduction to Histology
The "Tales" course in Histology is an online histology course offered by the Medical Faculty of Basel, primarily targeting students of human and dental medicine. This course is divided into two parts: general histology and microscopic anatomy of organs. It provides online access to histological preparations discussed in lectures and courses across different study years. These preparations can be examined from any computer with internet access. Each preparation is equipped with a "microscopy instruction" that outlines the objectives of the examination, peculiarities, and specific preparation sites to be investigated.
Course Structure
- The course covers a wide range of topics, including:
- General histology
- Microscopic anatomy of organs
- It includes various histological preparations for study, such as:
- Epithelium (general histology)
- Connective tissue (general histology)
- Glands (general histology)
- Cartilage (general histology)
- Bones (general histology)
- Musculature (general histology)
- Nerve tissue (general histology)
- Respiratory organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Endocrine organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Female reproductive organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Male reproductive organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Urinary organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Skin and appendages (anatomical microscopy)
- Circulatory organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Lymphatic organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Nervous system (anatomical microscopy)
- Sensory organs (anatomical microscopy)
- Digestive organs: Oral cavity (anatomical microscopy)
- Digestive organs: Gastrointestinal tract (anatomical microscopy)
- Digestive organs: liver, gallbladder, pancreas (anatomical microscopy)
Additional Resources
- Artefacts: Information on artefacts that can occur in histological preparations, such as folds, tears, or air bubbles, is provided to help students understand and identify these in their studies.
- Glossary: A glossary of terms related to histology is available for download as a PDF, aiming to facilitate understanding by explaining a variety of specialized terms used in the field.
