Laboratory Informatics Resident Rotation

The Laboratory Informatics Resident Rotation is a unique experience designed to involve trainees longitudinally in the important area of pathology informatics at UTSW. Residents participate during their second year under the guidance of pathology informatics faculty. Training focuses on the evaluation, implementation, utilization, and governance of pathology and laboratory information systems, data resources, and automation technologies across the clinical and research enterprises.


Rotation Details

The rotation consists of two parts:


  • Monthly topical discussions of ongoing informatics initiatives across the medical system throughout the PGY-2 year.
  • Dedicated two-week block focusing on individualized informatics learning and direct participation in stakeholder meetings and activities.

The aim of the rotation is to familiarize residents with all major aspects of the work of pathologist informaticians, and foster interest in advanced studies, fellowships, and careers overlapping pathology and clinical informatics.
