Introduction to the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program
The Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program at UT Southwestern offers comprehensive academic and clinical training in a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary, team-based atmosphere. Admissions
To be considered for the program, applicants must submit their application through the RF-PTCAS website. The application deadline is December 31, with interviews scheduled in December and/or January, and selection decisions made by February 1. The program begins on the first of September.
Selection Criteria
The residency committee evaluates all applications based on the following criteria:
- Pre-professional academic and post-professional clinical education preparation
- Clinical experience in cardiovascular and/or pulmonary physical therapy
- Acute care experience
- Previous mentoring, education, and research experience
- Community service
- Letters of recommendation
- Interest in academic-based physical therapy

Requirements
To be considered for admission, applicants must:
- Hold a current and valid physical therapist license from the State of Texas
- Have basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification The program expects residents to pass the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist Exam within 1-2 years of completing the program, providing an educational and clinical experience of the highest quality.
