STARS Summer Science Camps
Program Overview
Introduction to the STARS Summer Science Camps
The STARS Summer Science Camps were established in 2008 with a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Education Pre-College Division. The primary objective of these camps is to provide high school science teachers with hands-on experience and increase their confidence in laboratory exercises. Additionally, the camps aim to give students a head-start in science classes they will take the following school year.
Program Structure
- The camps are designed for two master teachers, 10 teachers, and 30 students to participate in each session.
- The staff of the Science Teacher Access to Resources at Southwestern (STARS) Program is responsible for designing each camp and providing overall supervision.
- The camps are held on the UT Southwestern campus, with a specific location provided to selected students.
Logistics and Support
- All camps provide breakfast and lunch for participants.
- Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the UT Southwestern campus.
Program Overview
The STARS Summer Science Camps offer a unique opportunity for high school science teachers and students to engage in laboratory exercises and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment. With its focus on enhancing teacher confidence and providing students with a foundational understanding of science concepts, the program contributes to the development of future scientists and educators.
