Program Overview

Introduction to Discover Bath

Discover Bath is a university program that offers a unique opportunity for students to experience life on campus. The program is free of charge and includes accommodation, travel, food, and all activities.

Accommodation

Where You'll Be Staying

You will stay in our on-campus student accommodation, which is a great way to meet new people and make friends during the residential. You'll get your own lockable bedroom, which will be en-suite, and bed linen, pillows, duvets, and towels will all be provided in your accommodation.

What to Pack

You should pack:

  • clothes
  • toiletries
  • a towel
  • a hairdryer (if you need one)
  • medication which you take
  • a book, magazine, or game for when you have free time
  • a notebook and pen would also be useful

A detailed kit list will be sent to you closer to the date.

Food and Drink

What You'll Eat During Your Stay

Free breakfast and dinner will be provided in our on-campus canteen, and a free packed lunch will be provided each day.

Accommodating Dietary Requirements

We cater for a wide range of dietary needs and allergies. Please contact us to discuss this.

Traveling to Campus

You can choose to travel by train, coach, or have a parent/carer drop you off by car.

  • If you choose to travel by train, then we will send you rail tickets in advance
  • If you choose to travel by coach, then we will send you coach tickets in advance
  • If you choose to travel by car, then we will cover some of your fuel costs to and from the University, which will be reimbursed after the summer school

Safety and Wellbeing

You will be looked after by members of the University Events staff and our student ambassadors, who have experience in running these programs. All of the Events staff and ambassadors have Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.

Accommodating Additional Needs

If you are offered and accept a place on Discover Bath, we will send you additional forms asking how we can support you if you have a medical condition or Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible so that we can make any necessary adjustments and provide relevant support to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Facilities and Activities

Designated Quiet Rooms

We have designated quiet zones that can be used during the daytime. These will be detailed on the timetable we send you.

Prayer Rooms

If you require a prayer room during your stay, please let us know before you arrive, and we can arrange this for you. We provide opportunities for students to perform religious duties throughout the day, but we ask you to let us know how strict the timings are, as this will determine where you'll be able to perform the prayer.

Free Time

You will have a couple of hours a day to socialize and explore the campus. We run free-time activities in the late afternoon and evening, which are great to attend, and there will also be time to relax in your room or to chill out in an outdoor space.

Leaving Campus

We ask that for the duration of the program, you remain on campus. This is for the safety of all our guests. You will need to sign a Code of Conduct to say that you agree not to leave campus.

Mobile Phones

You can bring your mobile to Discover Bath. You'll be able to connect to Wi-Fi when you are on campus. We do, however, ask you not to use your mobile phone during academic sessions, unless instructed to do so by the teacher.

Getting to Know Other Students

If you don't know anyone else who's coming to Discover Bath, that's okay. Many of the students on the program will not know anyone else when they first arrive. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends. We run social events to help you get to know others on the program. If you feel homesick or lonely, then please let one of our student ambassadors know, and they will support you.

Spending Money

There won't be time for any shopping excursions in the city. However, you may wish to bring some money to buy drinks or University merchandise.
