Introduction to the 2026 University of Bristol 3+1 Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program

The University of Bristol, in collaboration with Chongqing University, is offering a 3+1 bachelor's and master's degree program for the 2023 cohort of undergraduate students. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in their chosen field, culminating in the award of both a bachelor's degree from Chongqing University and a master's degree from the University of Bristol.


School Introduction

The University of Bristol, founded in 1876, is a world-renowned research university located in the southwest of England. Ranked 51st globally in the QS 2026 rankings, it is one of the UK's prestigious "red brick" universities. The university boasts an impressive array of academic staff and alumni, including 47 Fellows of the Royal Society, 17 Fellows of the British Academy, and 13 Nobel laureates.


Program Overview

The 3+1 program is administered by several schools within the University of Bristol's Faculty of Engineering, including the School of Computer Science, School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology, School of Chemistry, School of Earth Sciences, and School of Geographical Sciences. This "3+1" model allows students to spend the first three years of their undergraduate studies at Chongqing University, followed by a year at the University of Bristol, where they will pursue a master's degree.

Research Enhancement Selection Camp

The Research Enhancement Selection Camp is a mandatory stage of the 3+1 program, designed to enhance students' academic background and abilities. The camp will be held online for three weeks and will include 30 hours of academic English courses and 30 hours of science and technology academic enhancement courses.


Basic Requirements for Application

  1. Support the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, have good moral character, and abide by the law.
  2. Be physically and mentally healthy, have obtained the consent of their parents, and have a full understanding of the risks associated with studying abroad.
  3. Have a certain level of economic ability to cover all related expenses.

Other Application Requirements

  • For the Research Enhancement Selection Camp:
    • Be a third-year undergraduate student
    • Meet the English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80, or CET-4 530 or CET-6 500
  • For the Master's Program:
    • Have good moral character and be physically and mentally healthy
    • Complete all required undergraduate courses and obtain the corresponding credits
    • Meet the English language requirements for the master's program

Program Schedule

  • Research Enhancement Selection Camp: July to August 2026 (exact dates to be confirmed by the University of Bristol)
  • Master's Program: September 2026 to September 2027

Program Fees

  1. Application fee: 200 CNY
  2. Research Enhancement Selection Camp tuition and master's program application fee: 19,900 CNY (subject to change)
  3. Master's program tuition for the 2026-2027 academic year: to be confirmed by the University of Bristol
  4. Scholarships: The University of Bristol offers the Think Big Postgraduate Scholarship for international students, and students in this program can also compete for the Global Transfer Bursary.

University Scholarships

Chongqing University offers scholarships for students participating in international exchange programs. The application and approval process for these scholarships will be announced separately.
