Program Overview


MSc Program in Social - Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care

The School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece offers the MSc Program entitled: "Social – Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care".


Program Overview

The MSc aims to provide high-quality training to scientists, enabling them to apply the principles of the scientific fields of Social Medicine, Public Health, Preventive Medicine, and Quality in Health Care in their professional activity. Graduates will delve into the factors that determine health and the applications of prevention in both clinical practice and Public Health. They will also become familiar with the culture of quality in health care and immerse themselves in international practices for quality and patient safety improvement applicable to different health care settings.


Program Objectives

Providing graduates with specialized knowledge and skills will equip them to staff:


  • Public or private research/educational institutions
  • Health-related institutions or organizations, disease prevention/control services, or public health services at local, regional, national, or international level
  • Health services/health care facilities, contributing to the quality assurance and improvement of the services they provide

Program Structure

The minimum MSc Program duration is three (3) semesters and is credited with a total of 90 ECTS according to the European Credit Transfer System. The successful completion of the MSc thesis (during the third semester) leads to the MSc Degree (Diploma of Postgraduate Studies) in "Social – Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care" in one of the following two (2) specializations:


  • Prevention and Public Health (maximum, 20 students)
  • Quality in Health Care and Patient Safety (maximum, 20 students)

Learning Method

Using blended learning, by combining face-to-face and distance learning methods - on predetermined weekends, 1-2 per month, enables working people to attend the MSc.


Program Start

Courses start in October of each academic year.
