Program Overview

Program Overview

The Diplôme de français langue étrangère is designed for individuals whose culture and/or reference language is not French (holders of a secondary education diploma obtained in a non-French speaking country or territory). This program offers extensive training in French as a foreign language (FLE) in its linguistic and cultural dimensions, providing theoretical knowledge in literature, linguistics, and didactics necessary for a good mastery of the field (Francophone literatures, linguistics and sociolinguistics of French, literature and language didactics, etc.).

Program Structure

  • The program is designed to last 4 semesters.
  • It is worth 120 ECTS credits.
  • The language of instruction is French.
  • Students who do not have the required linguistic knowledge to access the Diplôme program are required to complete a preparatory year of university studies in French language (level A2-B1), which may be preceded by an Access-FLE year (level A1-A2).

Admission Criteria

  • The program is open to individuals whose culture and/or reference language is not French.
  • Applicants must hold a secondary education diploma obtained in a non-French speaking country or territory.
  • For students requiring a visa to study in Switzerland, the application deadline is February 28.

Career Prospects

The Diplôme de français langue étrangère prepares students for teaching French in their country of origin. Other career paths are also possible, similar to those of graduates in Letters. Students who meet the entry conditions of the Ecole de français langue étrangère but not the registration conditions in the Faculty of Letters and who have obtained a diploma from the EFLE can enroll in the Faculty of Letters.
