Horticulturist - Floriculture Option
Description
Apprentices horticulturists in the floriculture option mainly look after plants and their living environments. They learn how to produce them indoors in greenhouses and plastic tunnels, or outdoors in the open ground.
Why Choose This Apprenticeship?
Training as a horticulturist with a floriculture option at UNIL provides the opportunity to work in an exciting scientific environment in the Department of Molecular Biology, which has greenhouses and cultivation rooms. The plants grown are mainly intended for fundamental research.
Requirements and Responsibilities
To work in this profession, you need to have a keen interest in nature and an aesthetic sense, as well as physical stamina. A good memory is also essential for plant knowledge. Working alone with the greenhouse manager, you will quickly acquire autonomy and responsibility. In order to complete your training in sales, planting, and outdoor maintenance, as well as commercial cultivation, work placements are organised in companies.
