Program Overview


Program Overview

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Ethics, Health, and Environment is a comprehensive program designed to integrate ethics into decision-making. The program is offered by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research in Ethics, in collaboration with the Formation Continue UNIL-EPFL.


Program Objectives

The program aims to:


  • Identify ethical issues related to the tensions and effects of the interdependence between health, the environment, the economy, law, technology, and globalization
  • Acquire skills needed to recognize, assess, and solve ethical problems in business
  • Handle situations of conflict or constraints between different power issues and values in decision-making and management

Target Audience

The program is designed for professionals who play a key role in their organization's decision-making, particularly in the health, social, and environmental fields.


Program Structure

The program consists of 8 training modules and the completion of a group synthesis paper, as well as an individual oral presentation. Participants who complete the program requirements are awarded 15 ECTS credits.

  • Module 8: Ethics, Death, and End of Life

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:


  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a university or specialized higher education institution, or another qualification deemed equivalent
  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience
  • Submit an application to the UNIL-EPFL Continuing Education Department, including a covering letter and CV

Registration Conditions

The program fees are as follows:


  • Certificate (CAS): CHF 5,900
  • Module 1: CHF 1,050
  • Modules 2-8: CHF 700 per module

Evaluation

The program includes a synthesis work, which consists of 28 hours of teaching and approximately 124 hours of personal work. The evaluation and presentation of the synthesis work take place on Friday, 16 December 2022.


Teaching Approach

The program is interdisciplinary, fostering exchange, a better understanding of each other's interests, and the development of collaborations between the fields of health and the environment. Lectures are delivered by representatives from the academic and professional worlds.


Duration

The program lasts for 21 days of training, from March 2021, with some modules available to be taken separately. The synthesis work is spread over the duration of the training course, approximately 120 hours.
