Program Overview

Introduction to the Program

The CAS in Data Science & Management is a university certificate program offered jointly by HEC Lausanne and EPFL. This program is designed to provide professionals with a comprehensive understanding of data science and management, enabling them to transform data and artificial intelligence (AI) into strategic assets.

Program Details

  • Duration: 16 days spread over 9 months
  • Price: 17,000 CHF
  • Language: English
  • Location: On-site
  • Recognition: Internationally recognized

Presentation of the Formation

The program covers the latest trends in data science and AI, including generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and data mesh architectures. It is designed for professionals who want to develop their skills in data analysis and management without requiring prior programming knowledge.

Objectives of the Formation

  1. Analyze the role and value of data for the enterprise and design the data value chain.
  2. Demystify big data, data science, AI, and machine learning, and define innovative data-driven solutions.
  3. Identify and implement effective practices for managing data as a strategic resource.

Target Audience

  • Professionals in data analysis: BI managers, data managers seeking to develop their expertise.
  • Business professionals who use data and AI as performance levers: finance, operations, HR, sales, and marketing managers.
  • Data and AI leaders: CDO, CAO, CAIO responsible for the vision and implementation of data and AI strategies.

Program Structure

The program consists of 4 modules and includes the writing of a thesis. Each module can be taken individually.

Module 1: The Data & AI-Driven Enterprise

Discover how organizations create value through data and AI. This course helps understand big data, data science, machine learning, and generative AI, relating them to concrete uses that generate measurable impact.

Module 2: AI Foundations & Applications

Acquire practical introduction to machine learning, AI, and generative AI. Explore data architectures, data visualization, and concrete AI tools to solve business challenges, guided by sector experts.

Module 3: Managing Data as an Asset

Learn to manage data as a strategic asset in the AI economy. Develop skills in data governance, data quality, and data culture with the CC CDQ Data Excellence Model, and explore how to strengthen data literacy to succeed in AI transformation.

Module 4: Data & AI: Innovation, Risks, Privacy

Learn how to ensure compliant and trustworthy AI by addressing privacy, ethics, and regulatory issues. Understand how to manage risks, facilitate responsible data sharing, and exploit unstructured or crowdsourced data to create innovative business opportunities.

Individual Data Project (IDP)

The IDP is the flagship project of the CAS in Data Science & Management. Participants are encouraged to start the program with a concrete data transformation objective in mind (usually for their employer). They develop their project throughout the program with the support of professors and experts from HEC Lausanne, UNIL, and EPFL.
