Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Business Disputes (CAS IBD)
The Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Business Disputes (CAS IBD) is a program designed to provide useful practical insights into international dispute resolution. The program is tailored to meet the needs of attorneys, judges, and legal counsel who require a comprehensive understanding of cross-border business disputes.
Program Overview
The CAS IBD program is offered by the University of Lausanne and provides a unique opportunity for participants to gain a deeper understanding of international business disputes. The program is designed to be completed over a short period, making it easily reconcilable with full-time professional activity.
Program Structure
- The program requires candidates to earn 10 ECTS credits.
- Course credit can be obtained over 10 days, consisting of six days of mandatory courses (module 1) and four days of optional courses (module 2).
- Registered students are also welcome to participate in additional optional courses, although this does not affect the overall number of CAS credits.
- During a final one-day session, registered students are evaluated based on a discussion of a (real or fictitious) case in a short paper or in-class presentation.

Entry Requirements
- Candidates eligible for admission to the CAS must:
- Hold a Bachelor of Law (BLaw), a Master of Law (Law), or another equivalent degree from a Swiss or foreign university.
- Hold a Bachelor, a Master, or another equivalent degree from a Swiss or foreign university and demonstrate additional training in an area relevant to the program (law or resolution of international disputes).
- Hold another title considered equivalent by the Direction Committee.
- Proficiency in English is also required.
Tuition Fees
- The total cost is CHF 6,000 for practitioners and CHF 4,000 for students and interns.
Language of Instruction
- The language of instruction is English.
Start Dates
- The program starts each year in February/March.
Credit Transfer
- If the holder of a CAS IBD subsequently registers for the LL.M. program, the 10 ECTS of the CAS can be credited toward the LL.M. degree.
Individual Course Enrollment
- Most of the courses in the CAS IBD can also be taken individually.
