Introduction to the University Program
The University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 is hosting an artistic creation residency, "Regards inclusifs: une année en immersion photographique" (Inclusive Views: A Year of Photographic Immersion), in collaboration with the Mission Culture and a research laboratory. This residency is part of the university's Arts & Sciences program, which aims to explore the connections between art, science, and society.
Program Description
The residency will take place at the UFR STAPS (Science and Technology of Physical and Sports Activities) from October 2025 to October 2026. The program will be led by photographer Tim Douet, who will immerse himself in the university's sports science department, laboratories, and student community. The project will focus on the relationships between sport, science, body, and society through the medium of photography.
Research Areas
The residency will explore the following research areas:
- The diversity of bodies and practices
- Stereotypes of gender in sports
- Questions of inclusion and disability
- The place of women in sports practices and research
- Social representations related to sports and their professions
Project Structure
The project will be structured around three axes:
- Corps en action: Portraits and scenes of practice illustrating the plurality of bodies and sports trajectories
- Objets-signatures: Photographs of objects chosen by participants, revealing an intimate relationship with sports
- Terrains de jeux: Visual exploration of practice spaces, including gyms, laboratories, fields, locker rooms, and circulation areas
Phases of the Residency
The residency will be divided into three phases:
- Phase 1 Immersion (October 13, 2025 December 19, 2025): Reconnaissance, meetings, and initial photography sessions
- Phase 2 Participatory Creation (January 5, 2026 June 30, 2026): Workshops, sensitive investigations, portraits, and reports
- Phase 3 Restitution (July October 2026): Production of the exhibition and booklet, coordination of mediation and communication
Restitution and Exhibition
The residency will culminate in a major exhibition at the Galerie DOMUS, a renowned gallery for contemporary photography. The exhibition will be designed to be itinerant, traveling to various locations on the campus, in gyms, partner institutions, and socio-cultural structures in the territory. The exhibition will coincide with the Fęte de la Science, the Biennale d'art contemporain, and the Bicentenaire de la photographie.
