Program Overview

The M2 Microbiologie Appliquée ŕ l'Agroalimentaire, au Biomédical et ŕ l'Environnement (MAABE) is a master's program offered by the University of Lyon 1. The program provides a comprehensive education in microbiology, with a focus on its applications in the agro-food, biomedical, and environmental sectors.

Program Description

The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in microbiology, as well as specialized knowledge in the three sectors of activity. The curriculum includes courses on microbiological engineering, agro-food microbiology, medical microbiology, environmental microbiology, and risk management. Students will also have the opportunity to work on research projects and internships, allowing them to gain practical experience and specialize in one of the three sectors.

Admission Criteria

The program is open to students who hold a bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field, with a minimum of three years of undergraduate study. The number of places available is limited to 20 students.

Program Structure

The program is divided into two years, with a total of four semesters. The first year provides a foundation in microbiology, while the second year allows students to specialize in one of the three sectors. The program includes both theoretical and practical courses, as well as research projects and internships.

Skills and Competencies

The program aims to provide students with a range of skills and competencies, including:

  • Mastery of fundamental microbiology concepts and ecological principles
  • Knowledge of recent methodologies for studying microorganisms, their diversity, and evolution
  • Understanding of the applications of microbiology in the health, environment, agronomy, and biotechnology sectors
  • Ability to design and implement an experimental approach
  • Ability to interpret experimental results and develop a critical perspective
  • Ability to communicate research findings through various means
  • Ability to coordinate, manage, and lead a project

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program can pursue a range of career opportunities, including:

  • Bacteriologist
  • Biologist
  • Project manager in research and development
  • Director of studies, research, and development
  • Ecotoxicologist
