The Diplôme Inter-Universitaire (DIU) in Santé, with a focus on Physiologie et pathologie du sommeil, is a comprehensive program designed to provide in-depth knowledge of sleep physiology and pathology. This program is tailored for medical professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, dentists, and paramedics, aiming to equip them with the necessary skills to address patient demands related to sleep disorders.
Program Structure

- Theoretical teaching: 80 hours
- Clinical workshop stages: 40 hours
- E-learning on polysomnography: at least 2 hours

Teaching Modalities
All theoretical teachings take place at Université Lyon 1. Stages can be realized in any sleep center approved by the Société Française de Médecine du Sommeil (SFRMS) or with a practitioner exercising in a liberal clinic who is already a holder of a DIU in sleep (national or inter-regional).
Evaluation Modalities
- Attendance is mandatory and conditions the authorization to pass exams.
- Conditions for obtaining the diploma: average at each test.
- First Year:
- Written test /20
- Practical test /20
- Second Year:
- Oral /20
- Practical stage to be validated
- One session per year
Admission Criteria
Candidates must:
- Have validated their presence at face-to-face courses
- Have obtained a note of at least 10/20 in the written test
- Have obtained a note of at least 10/20 in the practical test
- Have obtained a note of at least 10/20 in the oral test
- Have validated their practical stage
Public Concerned
This program is open to:
- Holders of a State Diploma of Doctor of Medicine or a diploma from a French University, mentioning "Medicine"
- Holders of a diploma from a foreign country allowing them to practice medicine
- Medical interns
Specificities and Prerequisites
Candidates responding to the prerequisites must deposit a candidacy file with the pedagogical manager. After examining the file and within the limit of the reception capacity, the manager will deliver a written authorization of registration.
