The Capacités en Médecine program is a diploma-granting course that focuses on the medical and biological aspects of sports. The program is designed to provide medical professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for athletes and promote physical activity for health.

Program Description

The program is a 1-year course that consists of 138 hours of face-to-face instruction and 118 hours of theoretical teaching, plus 40 half-days of practical training. The program is divided into several modules, including:

• Physiologie et biologie du sport (e-learning - 14h / face-to-face (TD, TP) - 2h)
• Sports et états pathologiques - Activités Physiques et pathologies (e-learning - 14h / face-to-face - 4h / stage - 1h)
• Santé des sportifs + examen médical / certificats + Cardiologie + Médecine d'urgence et sports (e-learning - 32h / face-to-face - 6h / stage - 3h)
• Traumatologie du sport (e-learning - 33h / face-to-face - 6h / stage - 2h)
• Particularités en fonction des sports (e-learning - 7h)
• Stage pratique (32h - 40 half-days)

Objectives

The program aims to:

• Explain the fundamentals of exercise physiology
• Implement and argue for the monitoring of athletes' health
• Provide preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care for athletes with cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, nutritional, and other pathologies
• Promote physical activity and sports for health

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

• Hold a diploma permitting the practice of medicine
• Provide an attestation from their UFR of origin indicating the date of validation of their 3rd cycle and the date of their thesis defense

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the program is 525 for the entire year or for repeat students.

Evaluation

The program evaluation consists of a written exam with 6 questions, divided into 4 modules. Students must pass each module to validate the exam. The exam is held twice a year, in June and September.

The program is responsible for providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for athletes and promote physical activity for health. The program is led by Dr. Emeric Stauffer, and the administrative inquiries are handled by the UNIVERSITY CLAUDE BERNARD - LYON 1, Bureau des DU/DIU.
