Program Overview


Program Overview

The Capacité en Médecine program is a two-year teaching program organized at the regional level of Rhone Alpes Auvergne for the entire medical corps. It is particularly aimed at doctors wishing to exercise responsibilities in chronic pain management structures and become autonomous in pain management.


Program Description

The program aims to provide high-level competence in the field of fundamental knowledge of neuroscience, as well as clinical and therapeutic domains related to pain management. The diploma awarded certifies the acquisition of extended knowledge on neurophysiological mechanisms, physiopathology, clinical evaluation, psychological management, and treatments of main painful syndromes.


Program Structure

The two-year program consists of theoretical courses and a mandatory clinical internship in approved services. The teaching plan includes 160 hours of courses divided into 11 modules, with a preparatory module. Each module lasts two to three days and is organized in one of the four university sites.


Modules

The program includes the following modules:


  • Module preparatory: anatomical, physiological, clinical, pharmacological, and psychological basics
  • Module 1: Anatomaphysiologie - bases anatomiques and neurophysiologiques of peripheral and central pain
  • Module 2: Pharmacologie fondamentale and controle neurochimique of pain
  • Module 3: Bases fondamentales de psychologie, evaluation comportementale and psychologique of chronic pain
  • Module 4: Antalguques centraux and peripheriques
  • Module 5: Pain and cancer, palliative care, pain in children
  • Module 6: Pain of neurological origin
  • Module 7: Pain in the elderly, myofascial and vascular pain
  • Module 8: Pain and locomotor pathology, physical therapies, muscular and sympathetic pain
  • Module 9: Management in pain centers, medico-legal problems, ethics
  • Module 10: Acute pain, postoperative pain, local and regional techniques

Clinical Internship

A 30-day clinical internship is mandatory, which can be completed in 30 full days or 30 half-days over two years. The internship will be carried out in approved services, with 3/4 of the time spent in units with multidisciplinary consultations.


Evaluation

The program includes the following evaluations:


  • A probatory exam after the first module, which conditions definitive enrollment in the program
  • A written exam at the end of the first year, which conditions progression to the second year
  • A final exam at the end of the second year, which includes a written and oral exam

Admission Criteria

To enroll in the program, candidates must:


  • Hold a diploma allowing the practice of medicine
  • Provide a letter of motivation and a CV
  • Pass a probatory exam

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the program is 525 per year.
