The Diplôme d'Etudes Spécialisées (DES) in Anatomie et Cytologie Pathologiques is a specialized medical degree program.

The program aims to train medical specialists in anatomical and cytological pathology.

The general objectives of the program are to:

• Acquire knowledge and skills in the field of anatomical and cytological pathology

Program Structure

The program consists of three phases:

1. Phase Socle (2 semesters)
   • Duration: 2 semesters
   • Teaching methods: e-learning, exercises, seminars

     • Module of histology
     • Module of general pathology
     • Inflammatory and immune diseases
     • Overload and metabolic disorders
     • Cardiovascular diseases
     • Environmental and iatrogenic diseases
     • Malformative syndromes
     • Genetic diseases
     • Principles of carcinogenesis
     • Classification and screening of tumors
     • Histo- and cytodiagnostics
     • Histopronostic and therapeutic follow-up
     • Principles of organ transplantation
     • Module "techniques in anatomical and cytological pathology and laboratory operation"
     • Techniques for preparing cells and tissues
     • Principles of macroscopic techniques
     • Organization and management of extemporaneous examinations and emergencies
     • Principles of immunohistochemistry techniques
     • Principles of molecular biology techniques used in anatomical and cytological pathology
     • Principles and applications of digital pathology
     • Principles of quality assurance
     • Teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and integration of patient file information
2. Phase d'Approfondissement (6 semesters)
   • Duration: 6 semesters

     • Pathology of the respiratory system and mediastinum
     • Cardiovascular pathology
     • Pathology of the digestive system and its annexes
     • Gynecological and breast pathology
     • Urological and male genital pathology

     • Dermatopathology
     • Pathology of soft tissues and the locomotor system
     • ORL, oral cavity, and eye pathology
     • Cytology
     • Autopsy and medico-scientific pathology of the child and adult
     • Foeto-placental and pediatric pathology
     • Nephropathology
     • Neuropathology
     • Molecular pathology
     • Introduction to clinical research
3. Phase de Consolidation (1 year)
   • Duration: 1 year
   • Teaching methods: e-learning, case studies, seminars
   • Knowledge and skills to be acquired:
     • Preparation for professional practice
     • Quality management and accreditation

Evaluation

The evaluation methods include:

• Continuous assessment of knowledge and skills
• Validation of the student's course
• Validation of all modules covering the different areas of the specialty
• Memoire de DES (dissertation)

Certification

European certification is encouraged.
