Program Overview
The Diplôme d'Université (DU) in Santé, with a focus on Bases en soins palliatifs, is a university diploma program offered by the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1. This program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of palliative care, enabling them to develop a patient-centered approach in their professional practice.
Program Description
The program is designed to last for 1 academic year, with a total of 104 hours of teaching. The curriculum includes theoretical courses, practical training, and workshops, all of which are intended to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality palliative care.
Objectives
The general objectives of the DU are to:
- Deepen knowledge in the field of biomedical and human sciences

Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the program, candidates must meet specific requirements:
- Hold a medical degree (doctors in medicine)
- Hold a pharmacy degree (doctors in pharmacy)
- Hold a Diplôme d'Etat en Santé (DES) or a Diplôme d'Etat en Santé Complémentaire (DESC)
- Be a healthcare professional with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BAC + 3) and at least 2 years of experience in a relevant field, such as:
- Nursing
- Psychology
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational therapy
- Special education
- Social work
Application Procedure
The application process involves the following steps:
- Obtain the agreement of the pedagogical manager by submitting a CV and a letter of motivation.
- Deposit the administrative file (from August 25, 2025) if the pedagogical manager's response is positive.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the program are as follows:
- Initial training: 803
- Continuing education (individual funding): 1500
- Continuing education (employer funding): 1500
Evaluation Methods
The validation of the diploma is based on the submission of a memoir in the form of a Recit de Situation Clinique Authentique (RSCA), which must be deposited on the university's platform at least 1 month before the validation session. The quality of this reflective work is evaluated by two teachers from the program.
Practical Training
The practical training consists of two 5-day periods (minimum 70 hours) in a palliative care structure, which must be completed by August 30 of the year of enrollment in the DU. The training is subject to a convention signed between the university, the training manager, the host service or establishment, the university manager, and the student.
