Program Overview

The Diplôme d'Université (DU) in Dermoscopy is a university diploma program offered by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1. The program focuses on the study and practice of dermoscopy, a non-invasive method of examining the skin.


Program Description

The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of dermoscopy and its applications in dermatology. The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical components, with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of skin lesions.


Objectives

The primary objectives of the program are:


  • To acquire a sufficient formation to approach with confidence the diagnostic of dermoscopy and the differential diagnosis of pigmented skin tumors in usual clinical situations
  • To know the limits and performances of dermoscopic examination in usual clinical situations
  • To master the tools and know the limits and interest of telemedicine in dermoscopy and digital dermoscopy
  • To know the principles of dermoscopic diagnosis in less usual clinical situations

Secondary Objectives

The secondary objectives of the program are:


  • To know the main anatomical-dermoscopic correlations to be able to progress in the reading of anatomo-pathological reports
  • To know the indications, limits, and advantages of in vivo confocal microscopy examination following dermoscopic examination of a lesion
  • To know the use of dermoscopy in less usual clinical situations

Program Structure

The program consists of:


  • A 3-day seminar (23 hours)
  • A practical workshop (5 hours)
  • Two half-days of observation practice (optional)
  • A daily e-learning session (30 minutes, 5 days a week, for 30 weeks)
  • A telemedicine system for tutoring and practice
  • An examination (40 questions, 40 minutes)

Evaluation

The evaluation process includes:


  • Two examination sessions per year (June and September)
  • A final exam (40 questions, online)
  • Completion of a set of 200 questions on the e-learning platform
  • Submission of 10 case evaluations via the myHCL pro platform
  • Attendance control (obligatory)
