Program Overview

The Diplôme Inter-Universitaire (DIU) in Dermatological Surgery is a postgraduate program offered by several French universities, including Bordeaux, Lyon, Montpellier, Nancy, Tours, and Versailles - Saint Quentin en Yvelines. The program aims to provide complementary training to dermatologists who wish to specialize in dermatological surgery.


Objectives

The program's primary objectives are to:

  • Address the growing need for specialized training in this field, particularly in cancerology and laser surgery
  • Offer a structured and standardized curriculum, replacing existing fragmented training programs

Program Structure

The program consists of:


  • Theoretical teaching, including 9 sessions of 1.5 days each, held monthly from October to June
  • Practical training, comprising 20 hours of public workshops on anatomical subjects
  • Hospital stages or training with liberal masters in clinics or their offices, totaling 10 half-days
  • Continuous evaluation of students' progress

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the program, candidates must:


  • Be dermatologists with a DES (Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures) or equivalent
  • Have a strong foundation in dermatology and a desire to specialize in dermatological surgery
  • Submit a application dossier, including an authorization letter from the program director

Tuition Fees

The program's tuition fees are:


  • 1,700 for initial training
  • 3,500 for continuing education, either self-funded or employer-sponsored

Evaluation and Assessment

The program's evaluation and assessment procedures include:


  • Continuous assessment of students' participation and progress
  • A written exam, lasting 2 hours, testing theoretical knowledge and clinical skills
  • A practical exam, assessing students' surgical skills and techniques
  • A minimum score of 10/20 is required to pass both exams
