Program Overview

The Dipl獽e Inter-Universitaire (DIU) in Pathologie Chirurgicale du Genou is a joint program between the University of Paris XII - Cr彋eil, the University of Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the University of Grenoble (Joseph Fourier), and the University of Marseille.

Program Description

The program aims to teach fundamental and clinical data on the entire medical and surgical pathology of the knee, including traumatic, degenerative, inflammatory, neurological, and tumor-related conditions. It also covers the problems of indications and techniques for knee prostheses, both in normal cases and in iterative pathology, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of complications.

Program Structure

The program consists of:

• A theoretical teaching component of 60 hours
• A practical teaching component of 40 hours (optional), which takes the form of a stage in the service of one of the organizers
• Four seminars, each lasting two days, spread over the year
• The seminars cover the following topics:
  • Menisco-ligamentary pathology
  • Degenerative pathology, femoro-tibial and femoro-patellar
  • Knee prostheses (fundamental problems, surgical principles and techniques, complications and their treatment)
  • Inflammatory, neurological, tumor-related, and miscellaneous pathologies

Admission Criteria

To be admitted to the program, candidates must:

• Be orthopedic surgeons with a diploma (orthopedics, functional rehabilitation, or anatomy)
• Be surgeons
• Be rheumatologists with a diploma
• Be radiologists with a diploma (radiology or imaging)
• Be interns in the above-mentioned specialties, from the second year onwards
• Be foreign students enrolled in DFMS and DFMSA in orthopedic surgery
• Be doctors in sports medicine or physical medicine with a diploma
• In exceptional cases, French or foreign doctors may be admitted after their dossier has been studied

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are:

• 504 for initial training
• 1300 for continuing education, either self-funded or funded by the employer

Evaluation

The program is evaluated through a national examination, which consists of a written test lasting 90 minutes, marked out of 20. The examination takes place in June, and candidates must obtain a mark of 10/20 or higher to pass.

The program lasts for 1 year, with a duration of 2 semesters.
