The Diplôme Inter-Universitaire (DIU) in Occupational Health Medicine is a university diploma designed for medical doctors who wish to specialize in occupational health. This program is a collaboration between several universities, including the University of Lyon 1.

Program Description

The DIU in Occupational Health Medicine aims to provide medical doctors with the necessary skills and knowledge to practice occupational health medicine. The program is designed to meet the needs of medical doctors who wish to work in occupational health services or companies.

Objectives

The objectives of the program are to:

• Acquire skills in occupational health medicine
• Ensure that students can perform the tasks assigned to them by the Labor Code and specified by the circular DGT n°13 of November 9, 2012
• Prepare students for qualification in occupational health medicine by the National Commission for Qualification of the National Council of Physicians
• Master the context of the company and the world of work in order to relate health and working conditions
• Master the regulatory, deontological, and ethical framework for the practice of occupational health medicine
• Be able to evaluate and monitor work capacities, master all the elements for maintaining employment, and be able to define, track, and manage the medical effects of hardship and aging at work
• Be able to identify and assess occupational risks and relate them to health effects, work accidents, or occupational diseases
• Be able to implement individual and collective monitoring of workers based on the risks to which they are exposed
• Be able to implement or participate in health surveillance actions, epidemiological research in the field of occupational health
• Master all the tools necessary for action in the workplace (information management, communication, project definition and management)
• Be able to lead or advise, within the framework of multi-year objective and means contracts and action plans defined by the law of July 20, 2011, all technical, organizational, and medical prevention actions by animating and coordinating a multidisciplinary team
• Be able to advise the company on overall workplace surveillance and global risk management, including environmental risks

Program Structure

The program consists of:

• Theoretical teaching (170 hours)
• Practical teaching (400 hours)
• Practical training (4 years)

Evaluation Methods

The evaluation methods include:

• Attendance at theoretical teaching (at least two-thirds of the total hours)
• Written exams at the end of each year
• Validation of practical training and activities
• A final thesis presented to a regional jury

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the program, candidates must:

• Be medical doctors with at least five years of registration on the medical board
• Have a work contract or a promise of employment as a medical collaborator in a company or occupational health service
• Have a tutor who is a qualified occupational health physician
• Provide written agreement from the program director

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are:

• 4,800 euros per year for the first two years
• 1,800 euros per year for the last two years
