The Diplôme Inter-Universitaire (DIU) in Psychopérinatalité is a university diploma program offered by the University of Lyon 1, in collaboration with the Universities of Montpellier and Paris 7. The program aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to approach the perinatal period, considering its somatic, environmental, and psychic dimensions.

Program Description

The program is designed to complement other specific teachings in each discipline, focusing on the somato-psychic component of the perinatal period, from conception to the neonatal period. The teaching is done in pairs, associating a somatician and a psychiatrist or psychologist. The program includes theoretical and practical teaching, with a total of 127 hours, comprising 97 hours of theoretical teaching and 6 hours of practical teaching, as well as an optional observation stage of 2 to 5 days.

Admission Criteria

To be admitted to the program, students must meet the following criteria:

• Doctors in medicine
• Students in the course of a Diplôme d'Etat en Santé (DES) in gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, genetics, general medicine, or psychiatry
• Medical doctors holding one of the following specialties: gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, genetics, psychiatry, or general medicine
• Midwives, puericulturists, nurses
• Psychologists
• Social workers
• Psychomotor therapists
• Auxiliary puericulture workers
• Specialized educators
• Other paramedical professionals working in perinatology, subject to the decision of the Local Pedagogical Council

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are as follows:

• Initial training: 503
• Continuing education, individual funding: 700
• Continuing education, employer funding: 1200

Program Structure

The program is organized into three sessions:

• 1st session (Montpellier): November 17-21, 2025
• 2nd session (Lyon): January 12-16, 2026
• 3rd session (Montpellier and Lyon): June 1-5, 2026

Evaluation

The program is evaluated through a final exam, which includes a written test on a clinical case and an assessment of the student's participation and ability to present and analyze a dossier. The exam is organized by a national jury, and students must have completed the required teaching to be eligible to take the exam.
