Program Overview

Introduction to the Mathématiques Appliquées & Modélisation Program

The Mathématiques Appliquées & Modélisation program is designed to train versatile engineers capable of responding to complex problems by proposing mathematical models and providing numerical/statistical solutions to gain competitiveness and innovation.

Objectives of the Formation

The primary objectives of this formation are to:

  • Form engineers who can apply mathematical and statistical techniques to real-world problems.
  • Equip students with the skills to model complex systems and analyze data.
  • Prepare graduates for careers in various sectors, including industry, banking, energy, environment, and more.

Points Forts

The key strengths of this program include:

  • A broad spectrum of applied mathematics, relying on scientific computing, particularly for High-Performance Computing, Industrial Statistics, and Data Science.
  • High employment rates for graduates, with 4 out of 5 working in enterprises (according to a 2010 APEC study).
  • Significant socio-economic impact of mathematics, contributing 15% to France's GDP (source: CMI strategy consulting cabinet).
  • Opportunities for double majors, including a Master's in Mathematics in Action, Biostatistics, Biomathematics, Bioinformatics, and Public Health.
  • Possibility of a professionalization contract in the 5th year.

Admission

Admission to the program is through a national competition organized by the Polytech network. Candidates can apply from Bac+2 level for entry into the third year and from Bac+4 for entry into the fourth year.

For Students in CPGE

Entry into the 3rd year at Polytech Lyon is open to students from Preparatory Classes (CPGE). The competition involves written and oral exams.

For International Students

Polytech Lyon welcomes international students. The admission process for international students involves the same competition as for national candidates. However, students from countries with a Campus France procedure must follow this procedure before applying to Polytech.

For Students in L2, L3, BUT, M1, DIVERS

  • Modalities of Admission: Candidates must have validated 120 ECTS for entry into the 3rd year and 240 ECTS for entry into the 4th year.
  • Inscription au concours du réseau Polytech: The application and dossier submission take place from January 15, 2025, to April 3, 2025, on the Polytech admissions site.

Programme

The Mathématiques Appliquées et Modélisation formation is organized over six semesters across three years. Each semester consists of teaching units (UE), which are further divided into sub-units (ECUE).
