Program Details
Paleoclimatology
The Paleoclimatology program is a 3 ECTS course that focuses on understanding the processes that drive the evolution of past climates. The program is led by Chloé MARÉCHAL.
Educational content
The program covers the following topics:
- Climatic forcing linked to continental distributions, orogenies, astronomical parameters, solar activity
- Radiative forcings linked to the greenhouse effect and/or albedo
- Positive and negative climate feedbacks in the context of atmosphere/ocean/lithosphere/biosphere/cryosphere couplings
- Impact on the evolution of past climates
The program considers three time periods:
- Ancient paleoclimates (tens to hundreds of millions of years)
- Quaternary paleoclimates (from the last millions of years to the last tens of thousands of years)
- Paleoclimates of the Holocene (from the last ten thousand years to the last thousand years)
Research Areas
The university's research areas include:
- Geosciences
- Environment and Natural Risks
- Earth, Planets, environments
