Introduction to the State Nursing Diploma in Advanced Practice (IPA)

The Diploma of State Nursing in Advanced Practice (IPA) is a degree defined by the Decree n° of July 18, 2018, and is awarded by accredited universities, conferring the university degree of master. This program is designed for students who hold the diploma of state-registered nurse.


Objectives

The IPA program aims to train medical auxiliaries with expanded competencies and to support the implementation of new modes of practice. The program is a collaboration between four universities in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, each responsible for coordinating different aspects of the program.


Participating Universities

The four participating universities are:


  • Grenoble Alpes University, UFR of Medicine, coordinating the first mention, "Stabilized chronic pathologies: prevention and common poly-pathologies in primary care," and the UE Public Health.
  • Jean-Monet University (Saint-Etienne), UFR of Medicine Jacques Lisfranc, coordinating the second mention, "Chronic kidney disease, dialysis, kidney transplantation."
  • Université Lyon 1, Faculté de Médecine Lyon-Est and Faculté de Médecine Lyon-Sud Charles Mérieux, coordinating the third mention, “Oncology and hemato-oncology,” and the UE Clinical Research, as well as the fifth mention, “Emergencies.”
  • Clermont Auvergne University, UFR of Medicine and Paramedical Professions, coordinating the fourth mention, "Mental and psychiatric health."

Program Structure

The IPA program is a two-year program, with the first year providing a foundation in the principles of advanced nursing practice, and the second year focusing on specialized training in one of the five mentions.


First Year

The first year of the program is designed to provide students with a foundation in the principles of advanced nursing practice, including:


  • Basics of epidemiology, ethics, and research methodology
  • English for medical purposes
  • Observation and practice in a clinical setting under the supervision of professional tutors

Second Year

The second year allows students to specialize in one of the five mentions:


  • Mention 1: Stabilized chronic pathologies; prevention and common multiple pathologies in primary care
  • Mention 2: Chronic kidney diseases, dialysis, and kidney transplants
  • Mention 3: Oncology and hemato-oncology
  • Mention 4: Psychiatry and mental health
  • Mention 5: Emergencies

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:


  • Hold a diploma of state-registered nurse
  • Have at least three years of professional experience for the first year of the program
  • Have completed the first year of the IPA program to be eligible for the second year

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are:


  • Employer-funded: 4875 per year
  • Self-funded: 1575 per year + 243 university fees
