Program Overview

Introduction to the Tutorat Program

The Tutorat program is an initiative led by and for students of the Lyon-Est faculty, providing support to students from their first year to their sixth year, culminating in the National Classifying Exams (ECNi). This program offers a comprehensive accompaniment, including tutoring, organization of inter-faculty ECNi mock exams, sub-conferences, and methodology workshops.

History and Institution

The Tutorat Lyon Est was established in 2009, following the merger of the former tutoring services from the three faculties that formed the Lyon-Est Faculty of Medicine. It is an institutional organization supported and funded by the Lyon-Est faculty. The program is mandatory for each faculty according to the law of March 1998.

Team Composition

The Tutorat team consists of students from the second and third years of the MMOPK (Medicine, Midwifery, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy) programs. The teams are renewed annually and comprise:

  • Approximately 70 tutors responsible for the tutoring aspect, including evening courses, lecture notes, and training multiple-choice questions (QCMs).
  • About 30 leaders who handle representation, support, logistics, relationships, communication, and pedagogy of the PASS, as well as L.AS.
  • Around 40 group references/referees for workgroups.
  • Approximately 40 godfathers/godmothers.

Program Values

The Tutorat adheres to several core values:

  • Gratuité (Free Service): All services provided by the Tutorat are free and open to all, except for course materials, which are available at cost price due to logistical reasons.
  • Qualité (Quality): The preparation of exams is rigorously conducted by selected tutors in collaboration with teachers giving PASS or L.AS courses.
  • Représentativité (Representativeness): The number of registrants allows students to be ranked based on the majority of their promotion, enabling a better evaluation of their position.
  • Disponibilité (Availability): Services are available through forums and permanences.
  • Proximité (Proximity): All Tutorat services take place in the faculty's lecture halls.
  • Égalité (Equality): All registered students benefit from the same services.

Program Missions

The Tutorat has several key missions:

  • Prepare students for the PASS and L.AS curricula of Lyon-Est and Bourgen-Bresse for the competitive exams.
  • Accompany students pedagogically and morally.
  • Inform high school students about PASS and L.AS.

Achieving Missions

The Tutorat achieves its missions by:

  • Offering accompaniment and evaluation services for students' knowledge.
  • Developing:
    • Course materials reviewed by teachers (in the form of previous years' lecture notes) and updated annually.
    • Pedagogical services: evening courses organized as lectures in the amphitheaters (about twice a week) by tutors from different subjects; revision sessions organized before exams to review important points in each subject; forums available for pedagogical questions.
    • Accompaniment services: godparenting and sponsorship of a group of students by a godmother or godfather; workgroups set up as small groups of students followed by a reference who organizes a weekly work session.
    • Knowledge evaluation: by organizing about six mock exams (training on tablets in the form of QCMs) each month in collaboration with teachers. All exams are proposed, re-read, and corrected by them. Updated QCM banks each year allow students to train outside of exams.
    • Organizing immersion days for high school students to inform them about health studies.
    • Organizing a pre-return for the first and second semesters to present the different subjects seen during the year.
    • Preparing for oral exams with the organization of debate cafes, ED preparation for oral exams, and mock orals.

Unique Value of the Tutorat

The Tutorat offers a unique value compared to other exam preparation services:

  • Free and Volunteer-based: Members of the Tutorat are not paid for their activities.
  • Proximity to the Faculty and Teaching Staff: The Tutorat's close relationship with the faculty and teachers ensures high-quality support tailored to the students' needs.
