Introduction to the Zhengzhou University - University of Alberta 1+3 Joint Cultivation Program

The Zhengzhou University and the University of Alberta, a top-ranked Canadian university, have jointly launched the "1+3" joint cultivation program, known as the University Preparation Program (UPP). This program allows students to spend one year at Zhengzhou University to lay a solid foundation and complete preparatory courses. Upon meeting the required standards, students can advance to the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts to pursue a three-year overseas study, ultimately earning a globally recognized bachelor's degree from the University of Alberta.

The cooperation between the University of Alberta and Zhengzhou University is officially sanctioned through a signed memorandum of understanding and the "1+3 University Preparation Program (UPP)" agreement, with the program being implemented by Zhengzhou University's Continuing Education College.

Credits earned at Zhengzhou University can be recognized by the University of Alberta, effectively saving time and reducing the cost of studying abroad.

Training Model

The program is jointly implemented by Zhengzhou University's Continuing Education College and the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts, adopting a "1+3" segmented training model:

• First Stage (Year 1): At Zhengzhou University's Continuing Education College, students undergo intensive English training and general education course training. Upon meeting the University of Alberta's undergraduate program English language proficiency requirements and completing 9-15 credits of study, students can apply for credit transfer to the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts. This stage is non-degree education.
• Second Stage (At least 3 years): Students study at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts to pursue undergraduate courses, needing to complete the remaining required credits. Generally, an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta studies 30 credits of courses per year. Upon meeting the graduation requirements, students can receive a bachelor's degree certificate issued by the University of Alberta.

Enrollment Objects

The program is open to high school graduates from across the country.

Application Conditions

Exemption from written exams is granted to those who meet either of the following conditions:

• High school graduates with a score reaching the local undergraduate admission line and an English score of 90 or above (out of 150).
• Holders of an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent English proficiency proof.

Examination Requirements

All applicants must participate in oral and interview exams organized by the university. Those who do not meet the exemption conditions must take additional written exams. The final admission decision is based on the comprehensive assessment results.

Enrollment Quota

The program has a quota of 30 students.

Application Time

Applications are accepted from now until September 28, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited spots.

Application Materials

Applicants must submit:

• Original and photocopy of high school graduation certificate
• Original and photocopy of transcript
• Original and photocopy of ID card
• Original and photocopy of IELTS score or equivalent English proficiency proof
• One recent passport-sized photo

Program Fees

• Domestic Stage Fees: 68,000 yuan per academic year (excluding textbook fees, accommodation fees, insurance fees, and other additional costs)
• Overseas Stage Tuition Fees: Paid according to the University of Alberta's current tuition fee standards. The 2025 tuition fee is approximately 36,000 Canadian dollars per year.
