Graduation in Pedagogy
Program Overview
Introduction to the Pedagogy Program
The Pedagogy Program at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) was created in 1943 with the primary objective of forming technicians in education to assume functions of administration, planning, orientation, inspection, evaluation, and research in schools and educational systems.
History of the Program
Initially, the program functioned within the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters, aiming to form specialists in education who could work in administrative and technical roles. Over time, the program evolved to incorporate the formation of teachers for preschool and primary education, as well as for normal courses at the secondary level.
Curriculum Development
In 1986, a new curriculum was implemented, which included obligatory training in one of the teaching specializations, allowing students to choose their area of focus. This curriculum innovation emphasized the importance of teaching as the common base for the formation of pedagogues.
Objectives and Outcomes
The program's general objective is to form professionals in education capable of understanding and contributing to the improvement of Brazilian education, committed to a project of social transformation. Graduates can exercise various roles, including:
- Teaching in preschool and the initial years of fundamental education
- Teaching in high school, in the normal modality
- Teaching in professional education courses in the area of school services and support
- Working in administration, planning, inspection, supervision, and educational orientation for basic education
- Participating in educational processes, both within and outside schools, to overcome social, ethnic-racial, gender, economic, cultural, religious, and political inequalities

Curriculum Structure
The curriculum is structured around four nuclei: Specific, General, Advanced, and Complementary. It offers four areas of knowledge within the Specific Nucleus and recognizes the importance of theoretical-practical activities chosen by the students for curricular integration.
Legal Framework
The program adheres to the National Curriculum Guidelines for Pedagogy Courses (Resolutions CNE/CP 1/2006 and 2/2015) and the Law 9394/96, ensuring that graduates are qualified to work in various educational settings.

The Pedagogy Program at UFMG is designed to provide a comprehensive education that prepares professionals to address the complex challenges of the Brazilian educational system. With its emphasis on teaching, research, and social transformation, the program aims to contribute to the improvement of educational conditions and the promotion of social equality.
