Program Overview
The Specialization Course in Microbiological Diagnosis is a semi-presential program with an initial annual intake of 40 students.
Objectives
The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of microbiology, enabling them to execute and analyze the main stages involved in microbiological diagnosis. The course covers topics such as the recognition and identification of microorganisms, their implications in human infectious diseases and industrial sectors, and the detection of bacterial and fungal resistance to antimicrobials.
Target Audience
The program is designed for professionals in the fields of Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Nursing, Dentistry, and teachers of biological sciences. It is also suitable for recently graduated professionals, professors, biologists, and individuals with academic backgrounds in areas other than microbiology who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge in the field.
Selection Criteria
- Requires a higher education degree
- Analysis of curriculum, academic record, and interview
Methodology
The program is structured to facilitate interaction between students and professors. Theoretical foundations are reinforced through practical classes in microbiology laboratories. Each student is required to prepare an individual research project in the form of a monograph, aiming to stimulate their analytical and scientific writing skills.
Course Offer and Location
The program starts in March and lasts for two semesters. Classes are held at the Institute of Biological Sciences, with the following schedule:
- Fridays from 18:00 to 22:00
- Saturdays from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00
Course Load and Credits
The program consists of 24 credits, equivalent to 360 hours of classes, offered over two semesters, with up to 20% of the activities conducted remotely.
Faculty
The teaching team from the Department of Microbiology at the Institute of Biological Sciences has a minimum degree of Master's. Additional professionals in the field are invited to give lectures on special topics and share their professional experience, enriching both theoretical and practical classes.
Evaluation
Students are assessed through exams, exercises, and projects. To receive the specialist certificate, students must achieve a minimum grade of 60% in each discipline, attend at least 75% of the classes, and be approved in the presentation of their final written work as a monograph.
