Course Overview

The Course of Improvement: Palliative Care in the Unified Health System's Network of Attention is a professional development program designed to enhance the qualifications of healthcare professionals in the Unified Health System (SUS). The course focuses on palliative care as a multiprofessional practice, addressing clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients in various healthcare settings.


Course Objectives

The primary objective of the course is to expand the qualifications of SUS healthcare professionals with a higher education background in health to practice palliative care in the Network of Attention to Health (RAS), in accordance with the principles and guidelines of the National Palliative Care Policy (PNCP).


Course Structure

The course is offered in a distance education format (EaD) with a total workload of 210 hours, distributed across 7 modules:

  • M鏚ulo 2: National Palliative Care Policy
  • M鏚ulo 3: Palliative Care in Comprehensive Health Care

Admission Criteria

To participate in the course, professionals must have a graduation degree in a health course from the above list, be registered in the National Register of Health Establishments (CNES), work directly in the SUS, and be contemplated in the National Palliative Care Policy.

  • Palliative care services in the RAS: work process, team work, and matrix and care teams
  • Matrix Support: concept, actions, procedures, and communication process
  • Telehealth: information and communication technologies in health
  • Principles and guidelines of palliative care: concept, principles, and history
  • Assistance to people in palliative care: common signs and symptoms, clinical syndromes, and interventions

Resources and Materials

The course provides technological resources and educational materials that consider the multiprofessional nature of the target audience, diverse learning styles, and different scenarios of the RAS. Situations and educational resources will be created to optimize learning.
