Program Overview

The ATHENS program is a network of 16 European Higher Education Institutions, with the Universidad Polit嶰nica de Madrid (UPM) being the Spanish member. The program offers week-long courses, held twice a year in March and November, where students from all participating universities can attend.

Course Structure

• The courses consist of 30 hours of classes, laboratory work, technical visits, practices, and other activities.
• The course topic, level of difficulty, language, schedule, and prerequisites are determined by the professor.
• The courses can be taught by one or several professors.

Eligibility and Application

• To participate, students must be enrolled in a program leading to an official degree at UPM, both at the time of application and during the course dates.
• Students cannot be participating in a mobility program outside of UPM during the application or course period.
• Interested students must register on the ATHENS program website and submit all required documentation, completed and signed, to the International Office of their center before the deadline.

Course Modalities

• Traditional ATHENS Format: The standard format of the ATHENS courses.
• BIP (Blended Intensive Program) Format: Combines physical mobility with an online virtual component, eligible for Erasmus+ funding.

Important Information

• Students are responsible for selecting appropriate courses based on their knowledge, language skills, and other requirements.
• It is recommended that students apply for at least three courses in order of preference to increase their chances of being assigned a place.
• Once selected, students are committed to following the entire program and may incur costs if they cancel.

Financial Considerations

• Students are responsible for their travel, accommodation, meals, and other expenses related to participating in the program.
• BIP format courses may be eligible for Erasmus+ funding, with specific application procedures to be followed.

Application Procedure

• Students must register on the ATHENS program website using their institutional email address (@alumnos.upm.es) and correctly fill in their personal details.
• After registering, students must print, sign, and submit their application to the International Office of their center, either physically or electronically with a digital certificate.

Selection and Notification

• The list of admitted students is expected to be published in early February.
• Selected students will receive a confirmation email directly from the ATHENS program platform.
