Introduction to the University Program
The Department of Biosciences at Swansea University is located on the Singleton Campus. At the undergraduate level, the department offers courses in biology, zoology, and marine biology. These courses are all accredited by the Royal Society of Biology.

Location and Facilities
Swansea is an excellent location for studying biosciences. Various habitats are located nearby, including the Gower Peninsula (Site of Special Scientific Interest and the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK), the Tawe Valley, and beyond in the Brecon Beacons National Park and Pembrokeshire. The department has a new purpose-built £1.3 million catamaran research vessel that can carry 26 passengers and allows all students and researchers to conduct activities in Swansea Bay and beyond.
Research Excellence
In the latest Research Excellence Framework, 94% of the department's research was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent. The department was ranked 7th in the UK and 1st in Wales.
