Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year, BSc (Hons)

Overview

The BSc Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year is designed for students who are interested in building a rewarding career in the field of health and social care but do not meet the entry requirements to study the 3-year BSc programme. This 4-year course includes a foundation year that introduces students to the foundations of health and social care, covering key topics such as public health, policy, law, and ethics.

Course Structure

• The first year of the course is a foundation year, delivered by The College, Swansea University (TCSU).
• Years 2-4 are delivered by the School of Health and Social Care.
• The foundation year (level 3) covers modules such as Interactive Learning Skills & Communication, Critical Thinking, Living in the Social World, Foundations of Psychology, Research Project, and Human Development and Wellbeing.
• Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students progress to the 3-year BSc programme, where they can choose to study Health and Social Care as either a 3-year BSc or a 4-year BSc with Applied Practice.

• Evaluating research evidence in Health and Social Care
• Reflective Practice and Working with People
• Health Law and Practice
• Safeguarding in Health and Social Care
• Optional modules include Psychology of Health and Illness, Professional Development and Critical Thinking, Domestic Abuse, and Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology II.

Year 3 (Level 6)

• Global Perspectives and Working in a Globalised World
• Dissertation
• Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care
• Optional modules include Law and Ethics in Health & Social Care, Counselling and Supporting People, Psychology and the Promotion of Wellbeing, and Introduction to Pathology and Therapeutics for Health Scientists.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the 2026 entry is ｣9,535 for UK students.
