EngD Programme Structure

The EngD programme is a four-year full-time doctoral level programme that consists of taught modules and an industry-led research project.

Overview

An EngD is a doctoral level programme that is undertaken as a partnership between the collaborating company and Swansea University. The programme is based on a real engineering problem and will be defined by the industrial partner. It will be challenging and innovative in its content.

Research Project

The research project is a key component of the EngD programme. As a Research Engineer on the EngD programme, you will spend at least 50% of your time with the collaborating company on the research project. You will usually begin the research project within six months of the start of the EngD programme.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for an EngD at Swansea University, you will need to have a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Engineering or a relevant Physical Sciences degree, or a relevant Masters level qualification. Some projects may have additional eligibility criteria, such as funding from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) or the European Social Fund (ESF) West Wales and the Valleys Operational Programme.
