The Egyptian Centre's work experience program for individuals under 18 years old offers a unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of Egyptology, work alongside professional museum staff, and gain practical experience in various aspects of museum operations. This program is ideal for prospective archaeologists and museum enthusiasts.
Program Details
The work experience placement at the Egyptian Centre is ideal for those interested in a career in heritage, history, or gaining practical experience in customer service. Participants will gain hands-on experience of museum operations, including supervising galleries, interacting with visitors, and providing activities. They will also receive training in practical conservation and learn about ancient Egypt through independent research. The program prioritizes practical experience, and participants will act as Gallery Assistants, interacting with visitors and delivering activities.
Program Duration and Availability
Placements last for a minimum of one week but can be extended to one month for individuals under 18 years old. They are available throughout the year with multiple start dates each month. Due to limited places, it is recommended that participants book their placement early, especially during busy periods. Work experience placements run from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30am4pm. To be accepted, participants must commit to working every day, including Saturdays.
Program Requirements
To participate, individuals must:
- Complete the application form
- Have their parents or school sign the permission form
- Post the completed forms to the Museum's Volunteering Manager
- Ensure all sections of the form are filled in
- If arranging the placement independently of their school, participants must have their parents sign on behalf of their school
- If participants are 16 years old or older and have finished secondary school, they must provide a reference
- The placement will not commence until the application has been received and acknowledged by the Museum's Volunteering Manager

Eligibility
The program is open to individuals under 18 years old who are interested in a career in heritage, history, or museum operations. Participants must be able to commit to working every day, including Saturdays, and must have the necessary permission from their parents or school.
