Program Overview

Dual Doctoral Degree Programme

The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy offers a Dual Doctoral Degree Programme (dual degree) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram.

• Doctoral students from both universities spend one year of their doctoral studies at the partner university.
• Professors from both institutions serve as doctoral supervisors, and the doctoral colloquium is conducted and graded by professors from both universities.
• At the end of the programme, participants receive a joint certificate from both universities.
• Interested doctoral students can apply for the Dual Doctoral Degree Programme at any time during the first year of their doctoral studies.
• The stay abroad is planned for the second year and is largely financed by a scholarship from IISER.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM)

Overview

The IISER TVM was founded in 2008 and offers programmes for students up to postdoctoral level in the fields of chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics, and high-performance computing.

• It is one of seven institutes of its kind in India.
• The institute places great emphasis on interdisciplinary teaching and the integration of active research, which begins as early as the undergraduate level.
• IISER TVM has a number of international partners and regularly hosts national and international seminars, symposia, and conferences.

Campus Life

• Various clubs and student groups ensure an active campus life with film screenings, athletics, and quiz competitions.
• A cultural festival organised by students takes place annually, and there is also a student-published magazine.
• With over 1,000 students living in student residences directly on campus, it is easy to make contacts and find new friends.

Location

• The IISER TVM campus is located in Vithura, in the Western Ghats mountain range.
• The surrounding mountains and rainforests provide a breathtaking backdrop for the modern campus facilities.
• The nearest city, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is about 40 km away, and many facilities, such as student housing, a health centre, canteens, and a small shop for everyday items, are located directly on campus.

School of Chemistry

Overview

• The School of Chemistry has approximately 50 undergraduate and graduate students and 60 doctoral students.
• With 24 faculty members, it can offer a very good staff-to-student ratio and invests a lot of time in teaching and research.
