The Master in Global Challenges for Sustainability is a unique international learning opportunity that will help you drive positive, sustainable change for the future of our planet. This transdisciplinary, challenge-based program addresses the urgent need for a sustainable future through innovative learning methods and real applications.
Program Overview
The program is a two-year study course (120 ECTS) offered jointly by nine universities that are part of the CHARM-EU university alliance: University of Barcelona (Spain), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), Utrecht University (Netherlands), Eötvös Loránd University Budapest (Hungary), University of Montpellier (France), University of Würzburg (Germany), Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Bergen (Norway), and Åbo Akademi University (Finland).
Hybrid Teaching
Hybrid teaching is conducted synchronously by educators from all universities, combining their expertise to offer the best possible learning experience for students at the nine study locations.
Mobility and International Profile
The program offers various opportunities for physical and virtual mobility, strengthening your international profile, intercultural competence, and global skills. During the four semesters (two years), you have the opportunity to study at up to four of our partner universities.
Requirements
To apply for the Master in Global Challenges for Sustainability, you should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent degree (EQF level 6 or higher)
- English language proficiency at the C1 level
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees depend on your nationality and the universities you will attend. The fees for the entire program (24 months) are:
- For EU/EEA students: 5,000€
- For non-EU/EEA students: 24,000€
Program Content
The first semester aims to provide all students with a common foundation in key competencies and knowledge required for the challenges ahead, focusing on the development of transversal skills to prepare students for transdisciplinary learning in the following phases. In the second semester, you can choose from the following thematic specializations: Food, Water, Life and Health, or Energy and Sustainable Cities.
In the third semester, you have the opportunity to complete an internship, while in the fourth semester, you work in teams with external actors (including international organizations, NGOs, and research centers) to investigate and assess a complex societal challenge from various intercultural and transdisciplinary perspectives. This practical engagement fosters career networks, improves professional development, and enhances employability in the field of sustainability.
