Introduction to the Zertifikatsprogramm Machtmissbrauch Erkennen und Verhindern (MEV)

The Zertifikatsprogramm Machtmissbrauch Erkennen und Verhindern (MEV) is a certificate program offered by the Julius-Maximilians-Universitõt W³rzburg, in collaboration with the Fakultõt f³r Humanwissenschaften, the Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultõt, and the Medizinischen Fakultõt. This program aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and prevent power abuse in various contexts.


Program Description

The MEV program is designed to be a two-semester course, with each semester consisting of 5 ECTS credits. The program is primarily online, with some synchronous and asynchronous elements, allowing for flexibility and accessibility. The course material is divided into two modules: Wissenskompetenz (Knowledge Competence) and Handlungskompetenz (Action Competence).


Module 1: Wissenskompetenz

In this module, participants will gain a deeper understanding of power abuse, its forms, and its consequences. They will learn to recognize power abuse in different settings and develop a critical perspective on the topic.


Module 2: Handlungskompetenz

This module focuses on developing the skills necessary to prevent and address power abuse. Participants will learn to analyze and develop protection concepts, as well as practice these skills in simulated real-world scenarios.

The MEV program is open to various groups, including:


  • Studierende der Uni W³rzburg (students of the University of W³rzburg)
  • Lehrkrõfte (teachers) with or in the Referendariat (teacher training program)
  • Persons with a university degree and relevant work experience
  • Berufstõtige (professionals) with experience in caring, educational, or therapeutic fields, with or without a university degree

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:


  • Studierende der JMU: Immatrikulationsbescheinigung (enrollment certificate)
  • Lehrkrõfte: Hochschulabschlussurkunde (university degree certificate) and Nachweis ³ber Berufspraxis (proof of professional experience)
  • Persons with a university degree and professional experience: Abschlussurkunde (degree certificate) and Bescheinigung ³ber Berufspraxis (proof of professional experience)
  • Persons without a university degree but with relevant professional experience: Bescheinigung zum ausge³bten Beruf (certificate of profession)

Application and Enrollment

Applications for the MEV program can be submitted until September 15th of each year. The program starts in the winter semester, and participants will be informed about the outcome of their application via email or mail.


Program Costs

The MEV program is free of charge, with the exception of the regular semester fees for students of the University of W³rzburg.
