MA Musikwissenschaft (120/45 ECTS)

Konzept

The concept of our Master's program "Master of Arts (Musicology)" is characterized by the idea of freedom and individuality in studying. A transparent structure provides orientation without imposing regulation. The extensive elective area (65 ECTS) offers 24 scientific modules, a practical module, and a foreign language module, which allows for the recognition of study achievements from another subject.

The concept of examinations follows the goal of keeping their number as low as possible in favor of the best possible supervision and ensuring that students can control their performance from the beginning of their studies.


Bewerbung and Zulassung

Requirements for admission:


  1. Completed university studies (usually Bachelor's degree with 180 ECTS or equivalent) or upcoming completion.
  2. At least 10 ECTS in modules from the areas of historical and/or systematic musicology and/or ethnomusicology, as well as at least another 20 ECTS in modules from the areas of musicology and/or music education and/or another music subject.

Anrechnungen von Leistungen

If a music study program or another study program with music-related content has already been completed or partially completed, modules from this study program can be recognized in the BA/MA musicology study program, provided the content is equivalent.

The university strives to remove barriers and enable equal opportunities and participation. For the Master's program in Musicology, special regulations apply for students with children as well as for students with chronic illnesses, long-term or permanent disabilities.


Berufsperspektiven

The field of scientific cultural practice within the Master's program in Musicology is under development. The supervision of internships is integrated into the study program in the form of a recognizable elective module.
